Sakarya
Nation's Garden - Acarlar Floodplain
The traffic is medium and above until you leave the city. After returning to the direction of Kaynarca road, the traffic calms. When it comes to Kaynarca, there are gas stations and markets if needed. The road has two lanes up to İnekçikışla Village, and then there is a single lane going up to Acarlar Floodplain. The floodplain is reached by passing through three or four villages. In these villages, you can find places such as fountains and village cafes to take a break. There are also small markets and local grocers open for business. Our tour starts from the National Garden — full of greenery — which was inaugurated on June 5, World Environment Day. The National Garden, built on the site of the former Agricultural Hardware factory, promises you tranquillity with its green trees, 4500 square meters of walking paths, ponds, bridges and untouched environment. With the stress of city life behind you, it is also possible to participate in different sports such as jogging and walking in the Millet Bahçesi. We start pedalling from the National Garden, which plays host to many different events, including concert organisations. This route takes you from the heart of Sakarya and takes you to Türkiye's second largest floodplain. Surrounded by rows of ash trees, the Acarlar Floodplain is home to around 2300 plant species. Water violets, water tulips and water lilies of various colours, whose roots extend under the water, crown the end of your tour. This is the only spot in Türkiye where the water violet grows. In addition to the flora, the Acarlar Floodplain is one of the must-see places in our country for its abundance of fauna: 250 bird species are to be found here. The lake tulip and a few similar species are also found only in this area. Boat and water bike tours are also organized in Acarlar Longozu. Finally, in this natural wonder, you can also find restaurants with a view of the floodplain, where local delicacies are served.
